She is here and since I plan on someday making my blog into book form so I can remember the details of my life. Here is her birth story.
Saturday January 12 2013
I had a few contractions while I was at work but nothing to exciting. I had read about the baby giving their older sibling a gift to help the older one with the transition so I bought bubbles for Titan. I also have been meaning to make cute leggings out of knee high socks that they had for sell at work. I’ve walked past them every day for the last 9 months thinking about buying them so I finally decided to buy them and that night I made leggings. After work we decided to finish the nursery, we bought a mattress for the crib since we had taken the one we had and put it on Titans toddler bed about a month before. Put the room all together and I even took pictures planning on blogging about it the next day….
Sunday January 13th 2013 11 days before my due date
6 am.Brady was getting ready for work when my contractions started, or that’s when I was awake enough to notice.
7 am I was timing them just to see if they were going anywhere and they were about 20 min apart. I sent Brady an email to tell him that I was having contractions so he needed to stay close to his computer today. I then started to “google” at what point I should call Brady home from work when a contraction started and I thought to myself ouch this hurts…its going to break my water, and with luck it broke my water. I sent Brady a quick email saying well water broke come home. This was 715
715 am I jumped in the shower excited the baby would be coming today and 11 days early. While in the shower my contractions started getting closer together. I started timing them again and they were now 3 min apart.
740 am Brady got home (thankfully he works 10 min away) and I told him we needed to head out soon. Titan woke up so we took him up to Grandma and gave him kisses. Then we headed out the door to the hospital.
800 am Got to the hospital, took my last swig of coke and headed to L&D. When I got to the door I realized I hadn’t called my doctor or the hospital I just decided to go in. Hoped they’d keep me. Went to get checked to make sure I could stay and I was dilated to a 7 with my contractions 3 min apart.
820 am We were admitted and taken to our room. Because my labor was progressing so fast they decided not to change nurses on me and I got to keep the one that first checked me. Then they started my IV so I could have an epidural.
840 am I got my epidural, They debated giving me a spinal. From what I understand is it works faster but only last and hour so they decided to go with the epidural.
9 am I stopped timing contractions they felt super close together and yes I was still feeling them. My epidural hadn’t fully set in and I could still feel everything on my right side. I turned to my right side to have gravity help. Nope didn’t help made it so I could feel on my left side as well. (on a side note I was talking to my sister Emily on the phone and she knew what was going on and said. “what if your epidural doesn’t kick in and you can feel everything/” I told her to shut up)
910 am I got the urge to push, I really didn’t want to push I could still feel and was so scared that my epidural wouldn’t kick in time. The doctor came in, same one that delivered Titan! It was time to push (lucky Me) It is now comical to me looking back but in the middle of it I had a few crazy emotions going on. The first was why would anyone do this natural it was so painful. The second was I can never have anymore children. The third, you know how in movies they yell at the doctor to, “get the baby out” I really wanted to yell something crazy like that. However I knew that it was all up me to get her out. (Thankfully I had some self control) The fourth on the crazy thoughts list, they kept telling me she had a lot of hair and I thought they were lying to me to get me excited to have her. I had decided since Titan had very little hair that none of my kids would have hair.
921 am Reagan was born, and the moment they put her on my tummy I knew that I’d have more children and that her name would be Reagan. We hadn’t fully decided what her name would be but once I saw her I knew she was my Reagan.
Time lost meaning after that point. I got to hold my little baby for quite awhile It was all very surreal that Reagan was here I didn’t have enough time to wrap my head around the fact she was here. and the nurse noticed Reagan had a bit of a wheeze and decided it would be best if they took her downstairs to the nursery to get checked out. I was left alone and started getting really cold and shaking. I think I was in a bit of shock from how quickly my life changed.
I went downstairs and got to see my little girl again and found out that she had low blood sugar and they had to put an IV in her little hand. She couldn’t come down to my room until her blood sugar was high enough then they would wean her off the IV. I was taken to my room and Brady stayed with Reagan. My plan was to get cleared to walk as soon as I could so I could go down and feed her and get her back to normal. I got cleared to walk and got changed into my super cute jammies my friend Jodi got me and went down to see her. I surprised the nurses when I first walked down because I was walking (this was about 3 hours after I had her I feel that if I could get back to walking soon I’d recover better). Good thing Brady was with me so I could get into the nursery. Reagans blood sugar was getting better so we just had to wait till they weaned her off the IV. Then she got to come down to my room.
We had our families wait till that night to come visit just so they could see the baby outside of the nursery. Grandma Summers brought Titan so he could meet his little sister for the first time. He did really good, I gave him cookies, think that helped.![]()
